PT Girls Lax Working and winning
The Peters Township High School girls lacrosse became known around the area as a hard working and winning team. They became a successful team in their own section and also in the WPIAL finals. Both the girls and coaches worked really hard to achieve their great success.
The Peters Township High School girls lacrosse team continued to win, even after winning WPIAL'S three times in the last 6 years. The success of the team came from the dedicated players and skill of the coaches. The hardworking mix of people made it one of the most competitive teams at the school. Even people who are not on the team know of the skill of the players. Maddie Lieb said, "It's a very physically demanding sport and it requires a lot of skills dealing with stick skills." The girls on the team improved these skills with daily practices during season. With tryouts in early March, most of the team began preparing before Christmas. Before season started, there were conditioning sessions twice a week with very vigorous running, similar to what the team does during the regular season. However, it is important in order to be ready for games during the season and many girls enjoyed working out as a team instead of individual training. "It is something you can do with friends and it is very challenging," said Devon Recktenwald, who has attended the conditioning. Tryout week was dreaded by most of the players. Everyone was excited for season to start, but tryouts require a lot of determination to make it through. Usually a week long, they are held the first or second week of March. "It is a demanding sport that can be intense at times because it is so competitive," said Georgia Kourakas. Teams are determined by the beginning of the next week, splitting the girls into Junior Varsity and Varsity. The seasons lasted from March to mid May. Practices are held every week day with games thrown in on Tuesday's and Thursday's. That being said, many students have not been to any of the games even though there are many home games throughout the season. "I have actually never been to a lacrosse game," said Kayla Goedert. As the team continued to improve they hoped that more people would attend the games. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM8528aOOJs&feature=youtu.be |
